Evile’s Five Serpent’s Teeth was one of my favorite releases of 2011 and on that album they penned the track ‘In Memoriam’ originally to pay homage to their fallen former bassist, Mike Alexander. The song is pretty decent and is in the style of Metallica’s ballads like Unforgiven. Evile was supposed to tour with label mates Woods of Ypres in Europe but David Gold was tragically killed in an automobile accident in December. In a cool and emotional way the guys in Evile decided to pay tribute to not only their friend Mike but also to David and play In Memoriam for the first time ever. Check out the footage here.
Here is the quote from guitarist Ol’ Drake on the decision to play the song.
We were all deeply saddened to hear the news of WOODS OF YPRES’ mastermind David Gold passing away. Their obvious cancellation of the Manchester show left a big hole in the lineup I was so looking forward to seeing and being a part of. We’ve been thinking of airing ‘In Memoriam’ live for a while, so [we wanted] to not only play the song for our own reasons, but to also play it at the Manchester show in memory of David.
After the jump is the album version of the song so you can hear it better. It’s times like this where metal bands and fans sometimes are the best at honoring the fallen.
