Where The Hell Have I Been? Astra Ready To Release “The Black Chord” In March

Gosh, I guess it’s been about 3 years since I downloaded the promo for Astra’s The Weirding way back in 2009. I really didn’t know what to think about it at the time because there were a lot of other bands releasing killer albums during that time and I didn’t totally wrap my mind around this album. At the time, I really wasn’t feeling proggy, but I was more into the heavier stuff. I was reminded about the album and went back for a full listen and I loved it. Now they are getting ready to release The Black Chord in March on Metal Blade records.

Astra is a thick mix of progressive and psychedelic rock that is just very easy to listen to while doing most anything. When you have one of those moments where guttural growls and screams just aren’t doing anything for you, you take a break and listen to bands like Astra. Well, that’s what I do anyway. It’s my way of breaking up the monotony that can be metal at times. This is an album to keep an eye out for and that’ll be exactly what I’ll be doing. Check out the first single from the album, Quake Meat, and if it interests you, then check out their official webpage for more and definitely check out their debut, The Weirding. You can preorder the new album via Metal Blade’s Astra launch site.

  1. Really, really looking forward to new Astra. My prog tastes run entirely across the spectrum but The Weirding is always a consistent, reliable recommendation for fans of metal and doom.
