Sabaton’s New Album To Alienate Everyone But Swedes.

Don’t get me wrong, I like me some Sabaton. They get labelled power metal but I love how they pay tribute to bands like Maiden, Priest, and Accept but also have their own theme which is usually around 20th century warfare. Every album so far has been solid and the guys have started to get noticed here in the States after having their first ever tour with Accept. So is this new found recognition going to their head? You see their 6th studio album will be entitled Carolus Rex and is set to release on May 25th in Europe which means early June for North America. The problem is that this album is going to be all in Swedish. I’ve liked a couple of bands in the past that sang in their own language and not understanding a word but I can’t see how this is going to capitalize on the increasing success the band is having by having the whole album sung in Swedish? I get that they’re paying tribute to their home country but wouldn’t you want the album and it’s historical themes understood by a world wide audience? I mean how many people even know a bit of Swedish history( the album talks about the Swedish Kingdom between the years 1561 and 1721)? Here is the press quote on this.

For the first time ever, we have had an expert to help us out with the theme, the well-known Swedish historian Bengt Liljegren. We have also added some extra time in the studio to find the absolute right sound on Carolus Rex, and our producer, Peter Tägtgren, says that this album will mark a brand new standard for how a heavy metal album should sound like!”
Liljegren’s previously published works include acclaimed biographies of Karl XII, King of Sweden among others. He has also appeared on the popular Swedish television series “Boston Tea Party

Maybe an English language version will get released later but I’m kind of disappointed in this news. After the jump is the tracklisting if you’re interested.
