This is turning out to be a crazy year for the guys in Sabaton. I would have tacked this on the roundup last week but at the time it was pure speculation and no official word yet. And man, when the official word got out it apparently crashed Sabaton’s official page. It appears that Sabaton has gone from being a 6 person outfit to just two. Thanks to some intrepid people on their Facebook page that saved the text, here is the official press quote.
Sabaton goes separate ways.
On March 30, 2012
Starting a band at the age of 18 is simple, keeping it intact for 12 years is much harder, and finally we have come to the crossroad where we will go separate ways.
Pär Sundström and Joakim Brodén will continue to battle on stage, carrying the banner of Sabaton to further victories.
We will always have an eternal bond to each other, created by more than 12 years of friendship & touring, and wish each other long and prosperous lives with families, various projects and musical careers.
In the end, all six of us will end up in our own glorious future…
The metal world is a strange beast sometimes. Sabaton finally gets international recognition, even toured the U.S. finally on the last album ‘Coat of Arms’. They are now on the eve of promoting and we thought touring for the new album ‘Carolus Rex‘. And now this happens. I’m pretty sure Joakim and Pär will find members to replace but I’d think it’ll take time to gather four new guys instead of just one or two so this may or may not be a set back. Hopefully we’ll find out what happened at a later date. The good news is that Joakim is still the frontman which for this type of metal is crucial as the familiarity is still there for fans. I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned to see how this plays out.
