The 2012 Revolver Golden Gods Nominees Were Bad Enough. Check Out the Winners.

My, how fast things change in the space of three years. I remember being stoked at metal and hard rock getting their own awards show because the Grammys were terrible. Well guess what, The Golden Gods Award has devolved into a shit fest all it’s own. I already did my annual rant on the terrible nominations but it looks like the readers of Revolver decided to pick the worst of almost every category to be the victor.

Revolver Golden Gods winners:

* Best Guitarists: Jinxx and Jake Pitts (BLACK VEIL BRIDES)
* Best Drummer: Jeremy Spencer (FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH)
* Paul Gray Best Bassist: Nikki Sixx (MÖTLEY CRÜE, SIXX: A.M.)
* Riff Lord: Slash
* Comeback Of The Year: SLIPKNOT
* Best International Band: X JAPAN
* Best Vocalist: Amy Lee (EVANESCENCE)
* Most Metal Athlete: CM Punk (WWE wrestling)
* Most Dedicated Fans: AVENGED SEVENFOLD
* Album Of The Year: KORN’s “The Path Of Totality”
* Golden God: Gene Simmons (KISS)
* Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award: RUSH

If there wasn’t proof before that the readers of Revolver are either casual music fans or completely clueless tweensters there is now. Show me your rage in the comments below.

  1. I would say two solid winners: Rush and say what you want about Simmons but KISS were solid and have been a huge influence on metal even being the first band to wear corpsepaint of a sort.

I’d read a few issues of Revolver years ago and their choices of “good” metal are puzzling to say the least, which is why I stopped reading it. Even when they featured Black Metal bands it was more commercial types like Cradle of Filth, Nachmystium or Gaahl and King fronted Gorgoroth or Dimmu Borgir. To me Revolver is kind of like a gateway mag which would get someone who is into Nickelback or Theory of a Deadman into commercial metal and then hopefully the person then finds somethig like “Decibel” or Terrorizer and then onto the more underground and extreme mags like Zero Tolerance or Metal Maniacs.

  2. Gene Simmons has a history, certainly, but any more he is known as a reality TV star more than a rock star. No doubt I loved Kiss growing up and have some of their music (older of course). I don’t know what constitutes the requirements to win the Golden God reward, so as far as I know he may be very deserving.

    • Good point on him being a reality TV star more than a “Rock God” nowadays, but KISS does still tour albiet as an obvious money grab and their last album I thought was pretty damn good.

  3. WTF is this bullshit? I’m gonna go down this list. Best guitarists are group of wanna-be Motley Crue/emo kids who with their combined “talent” aren’t even half as good as the average blues rock guitarist that is Mick Mars. A watered-down hybrid of Pantera & Godsmack has the best drummer? Nikki Sixx, who has always been little more than a “punk” bassist, is now THE BEST BASSIST. I guess Alex Webster needs lessons, eh? What a joke. Slash, who is primarily a “lead guitarist” is a Riff Lord? Bah! Slipknot, who didn’t even release an album, is Best Comeback?! Who the fuck is X Japan! Why not Swallow the Sun? Amy Lee? C’mon. “Most Metal Athlete?” Shouldn’t even be a fuckin category. While I’m not a huge Maiden fan, I agree they have the most dedictaed fanbase of all time. Korn win’s Album of the Year? Korn’s day in the sun ended a looooong time ago. Tony Iommi probably refused to share a podium with the rest of these asshats, so they probably paid Gene Simmons to come instead. And Rush aren’t fucking metal in any way, shape or form. You asked to see my rage, so there it is. Fuck Revolver. Revolve around this. 8====D
