As seems to be the norm when high profile bands have splits or a key member gets bounced, there ends up being two versions of the band for people to fight over and cause confusion. Well you can add Queensryche to this. I’m sure you’re aware of Geoff Tates firing from the band and the subsequent legal shenanigans with Tate filing an injunction against Wilton and the rest of them and blah blah. Well now we’re all blessed with Tates version of Queensryche until the courts award the name to the rightful owner. And here he is to introduce the new guys.
I’m sure the last few months have been very frustrating for you.
I know they have been for me.
There are so many questions and so few answers.
It is said that adversity makes one stronger. Well, I’m definitely in a better place now than I’ve ever been before. I feel very positive and excited.
The challenge, when you’re in a creative environment, is keeping things fresh and invigorating, and after working with the same people for thirty years, it gets very difficult—You walk into the room, and everybody knows what everyone is going to do. There’s no spark, the chemistry is very tried and true and you just keep coming up with the same ways of expressing yourself.
Today is a new day and I am thrilled to announce the new Queensrÿche.
Joining me are: Rudy Sarzo, Bobby Blotzer, Glen Drover, Kelly Gray and Randy Gane.
Together we shall embark on a new musical journey that will be a greater extension of where Queensrÿche has ever been.
With this new project, with these new people, it’s a whole new scene. There are new ideas, different musical backgrounds and a whole new set of parameters. Everyone has ideas you haven’t heard before, and everyone is throwing them against the wall and suddenly … the music has a whole new life.
I look forward to this new life and I hope to see you on tour as all of us come together and begin this new era.
Ok, disregarding the fact that the first half of that press release reads like a father speaking to his children about a divorce and then ending like a main character in a movie delivering a cheesy inspirational speech, let’s go over the new Queensryche, shall we?
Rudy Sarzo: I like Rudy Sarzo but the man is a band whore. He’s played with Quiet Riot multiple times,Ozzy,Whitesnake, and lately this nonsense.
Bobby Blotzer: This is the name that made me wonder if we all were getting trolled. Blotzer in Queensryche, really? Is he there to play drums or to council on how to go through a band breakup and have multiple versions of the band? And did he finally give up on Ratt? I can’t think of anyone less suited to be in a situation that’s supposedly less toxic now then Blotzer.
Glenn Drover: Didn’t Glenn have his fill with problem front men during his brief time with Megadeth? Aside from that I see this as a piss poor career move, unless he wants to make uninspired music that is sufficient enough to satisfy a narcissist like Geoff Tate then more power to him.
Kelly Gray: Chris Degarmo’s replacement and pretty much has been there since the erosion of Queensryche began in one capacity or another. Oh goody.
Randy Gane:Another Geoff Tate nut hugger that contributed to Dedicated to Chaos and we know how that album turned out.
So there you have it. Geoff Tates version of Queensryche. Now that’s out of the way, all is left to do but wait for the courts decision on who gets to truly keep the name and to wait for a new album from Wilton/Jackson/Rockenfield Queensryche.
